Butcombe Trail
The Butcombe Trail is a 47 mile (75 km) circular pub-to-pub trail, running across the panoramic Mendip Hills, offering some of the most awe-inspiring views in the South West. It’s designed to show case some of the best scenery in Somerset whilst allowing you to enjoy some great British hospitality in some classic pubs.
The trail makes a circuit of the Mendip Hills and across to Bleadon Hill in the west. It runs from Hinton Blewett in the east through Priddy, Cheddar, Axbridge, Bleadon – its western end, Rowberrow, and Compton Martin. The trail consists of 6 legs linking up 6 Butcombe pubs: The Ring O Bells at Hinton Blewett, The Queen Victoria, The Lamb, The Queens Arms, The Swan and The Ring O Bells at Compton Martin. Which can all be done in any order.
The route is clearly way-marked as the Butcombe Trail and full instructions can be found on the maps.
Special thanks to the Mendip Hills AONB team for helping with the waymarking and also to Sue Gearing and Les Davies for all their help in mapping out the route.
