Following a major refurbishment and development programme one of Guernsey’s landmark pubs has re-opened with a fresh new look, improved menus and offering a better customer experience.

The Houmet Tavern occupies a position on arguably one of the prettiest bays on Guernsey's north west coast, the Grand Havre Bay. The Liberation Group, which owns the pub, has invested more than £400,000 in the property making it one of their biggest refurbishment projects in the Channel Islands.

At the centre of the redevelopment is a large deck area, which can accommodate up to 58 people and affords an amazing view across the bay.

The deck is also glazed to a height of 1.8 metres and has the benefit of a retractable awning so that when the weather cools, there is shelter from the breeze and in winter the pub will provide heaters and small blankets to wrap around the shoulders of those hardy customers who want to still enjoy the fresh air.

Inside the kitchen has been made larger and is now open to public view so that chefs can be seen preparing the new range of dishes on the revised menu. Old favourites such as fish and chips remain but new modern dishes have been added including charcuterie and cheese sharing platters, homemade lamb and stilton burgers, moules frites, Houmet fish pie with a cheesy potato crust and homemade crab cakes. The pub is also introducing the option of small or large plates on its menu, allowing diners a choice of meal depending on how hungry they are feeling.

Kenrick Brooks, Operations Director of Liberation Group said: "The Houmet is a popular choice for Guernsey pub goers but the site was under-invested and in need of some major TLC. In just six weeks we have transformed the site into a pub and eaterie with a modern feel, but have also retained its traditional feel for our regulars, by retaining the public bar and some of the more popular dishes on the menu. This is the most significant investment we have made in Guernsey to date, following the work we have done on Dix Neuf, the Red Onion and the White Hart. Liberation Group is committed to offering Channel Island customers, and visitors, the best experience they can have when they visit one of our pubs, bars or eateries and the high standards we set for The Houmet have been exceeded."

The Houmet will continue to serve the popular Liberation Ale and has introduced more wines by the glass to give customers more choice and value for money. The company will begin phase two of the refurbishment project later this year when work will be started on making improvements to the public bar
