The National Trust for Jersey’s restoration of 16 New Street is getting a festive boost from sales of the Liberation Brewery’s Christmas Ale.

For the second year running the Channel Island’s very own seasonal tipple features a classic local ingredient, Jersey black butter made by the National Trust at a three-day-long community event at The Elms in October. In return, the brewery’s owner, the islands' largest pub and drinks company, the Liberation Group, will donate 10p from every pint of the Liberation Christmas Ale sold during its limited run. The money raised will pay for the specialist lighting of the entrance hall to the historic building.

The President of the National Trust for Jersey, Mike Stentiford MBE, said they were delighted to again be the recipients of the group’s generosity.

"As No 16 nears completion we are grateful to supporters such as the Liberation Group for offering financial help with the finishing touches. In the same way that much care and attention has been given to the refurbishment of this wonderful old building, so too has the provision of a likewise measure of thoughtful expertise been afforded this seasonal brew. We feel sure that our black butter will add something extra special to the ale and we are extremely grateful to the Liberation Brewery for thinking of us once again," he said.

The Chief Executive of the Liberation Group, Mark Crowther, said Liberation Christmas Ale featured all the ingredients expected in a Christmas pudding recipe but finished off with one of Jersey’s traditional products.

"The National Trust is to be congratulated for the painstaking restoration of such an important building," he said. "The Liberation Group is committed to supporting community initiatives and the protection of the Island’s heritage and environment, which is why we are proud to support the important work undertaken by the trust. What better way to do so than by raising a truly local and extremely drinkable pint to a very worthwhile cause."

Liberation Christmas Ale will be officially launched at the Fête dé Noué celebrations in the Royal Square on Thursday, 2 December at 6pm, where samples of the beer will be available outside the Cock and Bottle pub. Last year the money raised from sales went to the trust’s Coastline Campaign.

Liberation Christmas Ale is a 4.8 % ABV dark ruby beer brewed with finest pale ale, crystal and chocolate malts. A unique blend of aromatic English and continental hop varieties gives a pleasant bitterness and slightly floral aroma. These flavours are balanced by the addition of hints of oranges/almonds/mixed spice and mixed fruit along with some caramelized Moscavado sugar - and the National Trust’s very own black butter. It will be available in many of the Liberation Group's own pubs as well as appearing on the bars of many of its customers in Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney.
