A new cask conditioned real ale, called Liberation Ale is being produced by Jersey Brewery in time for this year's Liberation Day celebrations. As part of the launch, money from sales of the beer will go towards the newly-formed local charity, Holidays for Heroes Jersey. Ten pence from every pint served over the Liberation Weekend (May 8th-10th) will go to support the organisation, which provides free holidays in Jersey for injured servicemen and women.
Mark Crowther is the Chief Executive Officer of The Liberation Group, which owns Jersey Brewery. He says: "We are delighted to be able to lend our support to this worthy local charity which has captured people's imaginations. As a Channel Islands company, we are tremendously proud of the Bailiwick's heritage and aware of the importance of this annual anniversary. We hope our Liberation Ale will be used to toast the memory of fallen heroes and benefit today's troops who continue to be injured whilst serving their country."
The Liberation Group is undertaking a similar donation in Guernsey to raise money for the local branch of Help for Heroes.
More than 130 heroes and carers are expected to visit Jersey this year to enjoy a week-long holiday funded by the charity. The next group of heroes to arrive on May 13th have also been invited by the Liberation Group to a lunch at Five Oaks pub on Monday 18th where they will be able to sample the flagship ale.
Founder of Holiday for Heroes Jersey Dawn Woodhouse says: "We are incredibly grateful for the Liberation Group's support which will help raise much needed funds and remind Islanders of the important work we do. The extra money will give us the confidence to plan for 2010, enabling us to offer more holidays to families who benefit enormously from this opportunity."
Pints of Liberation Ale will go on sale in many of the Liberation Group's pubs in the Channel Islands from Wednesday, May 6th. It will also be available to customers of Victor Hugo Limited and Bucktrouts. Liberation Ale will be available all-year-round and will become the Group's premium real ale brand.
Paul Hurley, head brewer of Jersey Brewery, a member of the Genuine Jersey Products Association said: "The response from everyone who has sampled the beer has been extremely positive. Sales in cask ale are flourishing and it is important for a regional brewery like ours to be able to offer good quality local products, produced locally by local experts.
"The beer is a 4% ABV cask conditioned real ale which is very clean and easy to drink. The recipe includes finest Maris Otter Ale malt with crystal and lager malt and English Golding Hops have been used to give the characteristic bitterness, whilst Styrian Golding and Hallertau Continental hops provide the citric hop aroma."
