Members of Jersey's Senior Citizens Association can claim a Christmas bonus from Victor Hugo Wines every shopping day throughout December.
From 1 to 31 December members will receive a ten per cent discount on all wines and spirits purchased from Victor Hugo Wines at Longueville. The first 25 to claim the discount will each receive a free gift of one presentation pack containing two bottles of Mary Ann Best Bitter and a Mary Ann glass, with no purchase required, on production of the association's discount card.
The Chairman of the Senior Citizens Association, Daphne Minihane, said the generous offer was a real boost for her members, many of whom were finding it difficult to cope with the rising cost of living.
'I would like to thank Victor Hugo Wines for this fantastic offer especially as it comes at this time. The elderly will suffer more than most as a result of the economic downturn and many have told me that they 'cannot afford Christmas this year.'
Christmas is a time for celebrating with family and friends and everyone needs to be included in this. This kind gesture will help brighten the lives of our senior citizens for which we are all most grateful,' she said.
The offer applies to wines and spirits not already discounted and Senior Citizens Association members must produce their discount cards at the till to benefit. Free delivery is available on all purchases above £25. The association has about 2,500 members.
The Managing Director of Victor Hugo Wines, Martin Flageul, said they were delighted when Mrs Minihane accepted the offer on behalf of her members.
'For many older people, Christmas is the one time of the year when they splash out on a special treat such as wine or sherry for themselves or as a gift. We hope that this discount will reduce the financial burden that Christmas can be for senior citizens and bring a little cheer to their festivities,' he said.
