Jersey Brewery is entering into the Christmas spirit by producing a festive real ale featuring a classic local ingredient. Jersey's traditional Black Butter has been added to the casks for the first time to add seasonal spice to the brew, which will be available at the launch of La Fête dé Noué in the Royal Square (Thursday, November 27th).
Jersey Brewery's Head brewer Paul Hurley says: "Mary Ann Christmas Ale features all the ingredients you would expect to find in a Christmas pudding recipe, with the added boost of one of Jersey's best-loved products. Drinkers will be able to enjoy a truly Jersey Christmas pint, which has been produced by a local company, using homegrown ingredients, skills and expertise."
Both Jersey Brewery and La Mare Wine Estate, producers of the Black Butter, are members of the Genuine Jersey Products Association. Chief Executive Officer of the Association, John Garton says: "This is a fantastic example of Jersey producers working in partnership to produce high-quality local products. Islanders are huge supporters of local companies and their products and in these more uncertain economic times we would encourage more people to continue to think twice and buy local."
The recipe includes orange zest, mixed spice, raisins, currents and sultanas. The brew will be stored in casks which have been rubbed with Black Butter to allow the flavours to develop. The 4.8%ABV easy-drinking beer has a rich, ruby red colour and is especially good enjoyed with winter warming meals and mince pies.
Mark Crowther is Chief Executive Officer of the Liberation Group which owns Jersey Brewery. He says: "We have been delighted with the public's response to the re-launch of Mary Ann and our special anniversary Durrell beer 'It's Time' and I hope our Christmas ale will be as equally well received. The Liberation Group is committed to producing high-quality local products for our customers and visitors to the Channel Islands to enjoy."
Mary Ann Christmas Ale will be launched at La Fête dé Noué celebrations in the Royal Square on Thursday, November 27th at 6pm, where samples of the beer will be available outside the Cock and Bottle pub. The beer will be available in many of the Liberation Group pubs and free trade outlets including Moulin de Lecq and The Smugglers throughout the Christmas period.
