The Channel Island’s biggest pub and drinks company, The Liberation Group has bought the Rozel Bar and Restaurant in St Martin. The sale of the pub, which has been closed since September, has been welcomed by locals who had feared the pub would be sold to developers for homes. It is the Liberation Group’s first acquisition in Jersey since the business was formed in 2008 and Chief Executive Mark Crowther says it reflects the Group’s commitment and continued success in the Channel Islands.
Mark said: “We are delighted to add the Rozel Bar and Restaurant to our growing portfolio of pubs and bars in the Channel Islands. This is a fantastic, traditional Jersey pub which will showcase the qualities that the Liberation Group have become known for - great locations, tasty food using local produce and top-quality real ales. We have received lots of support from locals to us buying the pub, which was one of our best stockists of our award-winning Liberation Ale”.
The Rozel will open mid-February and a tenant should be appointed by Easter. The pub has two bars and an upstairs restaurant as well as a spacious beer garden.
The new tenants will be given support by the Liberation Group to help grow the business and create more jobs for local people. With its picture-postcard views and traditional charm the pub will appeal to locals and visitors alike.
The Liberation Group already owns 66 pubs across Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney and is committed to continuing investment in the business with future acquisitions and an ongoing programme of refurbishment. In December £250,000 was spent on upgrading the St Mary’s Country Inn and plans are in progress to refurbish Friday’s in St Helier later this year.
