Jersey Brewery is helping to protect the environment by donating 10p to the National Trust for Jersey's Coastline Campaign from every pint of Christmas Ale sold.
For the second year running the brewery is producing limited run festive ale which is being launched on the first day of the Fête dé Noué. It features a classic local ingredient, Jersey black butter made by the National Trust at a three-day-long community event at The Elms in October.
Head brewer Paul Hurley said Mary Ann Christmas Ale featured all the ingredients expected in a Christmas pudding recipe but finished off with one of Jersey’s traditional products.
‘Islanders will be able to enjoy a truly local pint, which has been produced by a Jersey company. The piece de resistance is the addition of a spoonful of National Trust black butter to each finished cask, leading to a beer that is not only rich in colour and extremely drinkable, but has all the aspects of a Genuine Jersey Christmas,’ he said.
The President of the National Trust for Jersey, Mike Stentiford MBE, said they were delighted to be the recipients of the brewery’s generosity.
‘The purpose of our campaign is to permanently safeguard for future generations the special character of the Jersey coastline; forever and for everyone. Our coast is wonderfully diverse and we all enjoy it - just as generations of Islanders have enjoyed a pint of Mary Ann. We hope our black butter will add something extra special to the ale and we are grateful to the Jersey Brewery for thinking of us,’ he said.
Mark Crowther is the Chief Executive Officer of the Liberation Group which owns Jersey Brewery. Last year he took part in black butter making at The Elms, joining in by peeling apples and helping to stir the mixture.
‘ I was amazed by the community spirit of the event which was a joy to be involved in and the National Trust is to be congratulated for keeping alive such an important Jersey tradition. The Liberation Group is committed to supporting community initiatives and the protection of the Island’s stunning coastline is a very worthwhile cause as the land owned by the National Trust is freely accessible for us all to enjoy,’ he said.
Mary Ann Christmas Ale will be officially launched at the Fête dé Noué celebrations in the Royal Square on Thursday, November 26 at 6pm, where samples of the beer will be available outside the Cock and Bottle pub.
