Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal - 22nd October 2009
The Liberation Group, the largest pub and drinks industry group in the Channels Islands, is supporting the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal by donating 10p for every pint of Liberation Ale sold in selected managed public houses over the weekends of 24 and 25 October and 7 and 8 November. The participating pubs are the Cock and Bottle, the Post Horn, Five Oaks, Trinity Arms and St Mary’s Country Inn.

The Chairman of the Royal British Legion in Jersey, Ken Soar, said he was delighted with the support from the Liberation Group and he hoped that Islanders would be raising a pint Liberation Ale in memory of the fallen and to boost the appeal. The Group has been invited by the Legion to participate in the ceremony at Cenotaph on Sunday to dedicate the Field of Remembrance.

Mr Soar said: ‘We are delighted that the Liberation Group has accepted our invitation to lay a cross at the Field of Remembrance in honour of the employees, past and present, who have served in the armed services, in particular those who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars. This is the first time that a local company has honoured its workers in such a manner and the Legion welcomes the Liberation Group’s initiative and community-minded spirit.’

The Chief Executive of the Liberation Group, Mark Crowther, said they were honoured to be part of such an important fundraising initiative and also to lend their support for the vital work the Royal British Legion undertakes for serving and ex-Service personnel and their families.

‘Every year the British people show their gratitude for those who made the ultimate sacrifice in two world wars and all conflicts since by buying a simple poppy and wearing it with pride for two weeks. Yet the work of the Legion goes on all year round which is why they need to raise as much money as possible. Nobody likes a pint or two more than a member of the armed forces, so what better way to support such a worthy cause than raising a pint of the Channel Islands’ flagship beer,’ he said.
