Soft Drinks and Drive - 03 December 2009
The Liberation Group is offering free soft drinks to motorists driving friends on festive nights out at their 66 public houses in Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney.

The largest pubs business in the Channel Islands is running the offer until New Year’s Eve to anyone volunteering as the designated driver for two or more friends. To qualify, the designated driver must make themselves known to the staff serving their party to receive a free non-alcoholic drink with every round of drinks served during their stay.

The Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Crowther, said the idea behind this ‘soft drink drive’ campaign was to promote sensible driving over the Christmas and New Year holidays in the interests of road and public safety.

‘We want our customers to have a great time by enjoying our hospitality over the holidays but we also want them to get home safe and sound. Those who drive when they have consumed in excess of the legal limit are a danger to themselves and other road users. By offering free soft drinks to those celebrating with family and friends in our pubs we want to encourage Islanders to think hard about drinking alcohol when they are driving,’ he said.

Staff in all Liberation Group pubs will be briefed on bus timetables and taxi services to be best able to advise drinkers on the alternatives of how to get safely home. Posters encouraging Islanders not to drink and drive will also be displayed in prominent locations in the participating pubs.

Designated drivers must be aged 18 years or over and will be able to choose drinks from the J2O and Pepsi ranges.
